Best authentic Cuban-mexican cuisine in Toronto?

While in San Francisco last week my girlfriend and I experienced some amazing cuban-mexican food at Cha Cha Cha on the Haight in San Francisco. I don't expect to experience anything that matches, but does anyone know if there is Cuban-Mexican fare that approaches in quality what you can get there?

  1. Okay, I'll bite. Really? The two cultures use very similar ingredients in very dissimilar ways. Almost as if the Cubans have no appetite for spice or heat. To fuse the two cultures you would probably just make it less spicy and have a rum drink.
In looking at the menu on CHA3's website, they seem to use a lot of authentic Cuban-mexican heritage flavours such as jerk, cajun, sour cream, and lemon aioli. I don't think our local immigrant scene has evolved to that level of sophistication. Maybe if you went to Playa Cabana with a jar of mayo and a lemon, and ordered a rum drink?

    1. What about Julie's? I haven't been in years so would love to hear of recent experiences.

      1. Agree with the'll have to pick one here in TO. That said, I couldn't be more impressed with La Cubana on Roncesvalles.
