South Beach Suggestions

Hi all...

Will be in South Beach next month celebrating my wife's birthday. We're staying at the James Hotel. I need two or three stellar restaurant suggestions for her birthday. Preferably on the strip near the hotel.

As a side note any places that are a must try (cheap eats) feel free to pass along.

  1. Restaurants near you
Lure (I actually like the Dutch better but lure is right next door and is solid -- what is weird was the quality of the sushi at lure is surprisingly good -- I would eat this at the sushi bar though if you go that route)
    Restaurant Michael Schwartz
You should also consider Oolite which is a little further from you.

Cheap Eats (no particular order except the first two are very near you)
    El Chalan
    My Ceviche
    La Sandwicherie
    Joe's takeout (fried chicken)
    Puerto Sagua

awesome...thx so much. Dutch was on the list. Liking what I see for Restaurant Michael Schwartz. This looks great!

Good list by TP. I'd add The Dutch to the mix and 1826. Both close to hotel on Collins.

I notice that you don't have 1826 on your top 15. Just for the record how does it compare to Bazaar?

what about adding Meat Market to the list....not on the strip, but Lincoln Road Mall is not that far away--restaurant should be within a 10-12 minute walk from hotel....too bad Catch at the James Hotel closed down (I ate at their NYC location and enjoyed it very much).

1826 was a tough call ranking wise b/c I've only been one time. I have a good feel for where it belongs but need to get back there. I really enjoyed the dishes I had. I've done Bazaar several times and hit that menu hard. Big fan but haven't been back recently primarily b/c I was avoiding during season.

note: Joe's Take Away is great but it is closed for the season and will not reopen until October.
