Looking for reasonably priced authentic Mexican in Vegas.

  • 6

Four of us are spending 4 days in Vegas in a couple of weeks. One is a Mexican food fan so we would like one of our dinners to be a nice authentic Mexican food feast. Looks like there's quite a few choices. Thought I would put it out there and see what's recommended. Thx in advance.

      1. There's two kinds of "authentic"; the places mentioned is one kind and the other is a hole-in-the-wall joint on the NW corner of Jones and Charleston, next to the car wash. The place is clean, has a full menu and I doubt much English is spoken there. I've had their lengua and tripas; both were superb.

I believe that place is Tacos El Compita, one of our literal fiesta of quality hole-in-the-wall offerings. The emergence of these places over the past decade is one of the most under-rated aspects of the Las Vegas food scene.

If you are a tripas fan I would be interested in your take on a place that has truly withstood the test of time - Tacos El Rodeo, 2115 North Decatur. Unassuming place in a small, dilapidated strip mall that has been around for over a decade. No frills, but they put an immense amount of pride on their plates. It has been my favorite tripas in the valley so far (the far left in the first photo).

last time I was in vegas I was definitely surprised at how many little taco shops had opened up. taco trucks too.

Yes, Tacos El Compita is the place. I couldn't remember the name. I love tripas and, for sure, will try Tacos El Rodeo. I had read some reviews that said Tacos Gil made the best tripas in the valley. I was very disappointed after taking the first bite. Some pieces were as hard as bone while others were soft. Another place with excellent tripas is Cardena's market
