Need some ingredients

Ricotta Impastata
Nutmeg oil
Citron

I'll be going to Central Market and can check there, but i would imagine both to be expensive if they even have them. Any ideas?

  1. hmmmm for the nutmeg oil, i would suggest calling con'olios to see if they have any ideas.

is it preserved citron (peel) you need? try calling over to savory spice (next to con'olio in the arboretum) or penzey's.

had to google the difference with impastata:

if the people at antonelli's don't have it, or don't know where to find it, then i don't think it's in austin.

    good luck!

Good idea - antonellis would know. I've also sent an inquiry to a cheesemaker friend. Thanks!

EDIT - I called Antonelli's, but Monday is their day off. I'll call tomorrow.

I'm trying to replicate the cannoli of my wife's youth. I've had the real deal in the NE, so I can't skimp on ingredients!

        ricotta: possibly also mandola's?

never heard of nutmeg oil... should be interesting!

EDIT: google tells me there is a NOW brand, and the HEB PLUSs with a big naturals section carries many of these oils. i know the lakeline location has a slew.

i made a GF & low carb lemon ricotta cake this weekend. it was reminiscent of pastiera, which has cannoli-esque flavors.

never seen any GF cannolis but maybe some day someone with more patience and expertise than me can hit a grand slam.

    2. Central Market south had citron a few weeks ago. And I've seen Bhuda's hands up at the north store. Check the cosmetic/health section for nutmeg oil. Impastata? never heard of it.

Sounds like a lot of effort for cannoli.

Hey sqwertz - I've see all of your photos of food, and you put in a lot of effort yourself! Gotta take that shot.

First I've ever heard of that....I'll check mandola's for the cheese. Thanks for the help dinaD.

I was just guessing on the canolli. I didn't see the other responses mentioning cannoli until just now :-)

Note that nutmeg oil may be "behind the counter" since it's a recreational drug.

        1. nutmeg oil - word on the street is it makes people a tad randy.

i bet vitamin shoppe on research has it. northeast corner of 183 and great hills trail just before Truluck's.

Yeah, and I fooled sqwertz into thinking that I simply wanted to make cannoli! The cheese and citron are just a smoke screen. Thanks for the tip - there's one at the triangle, too.
