Lotus of Siam's lunch buffet
According the the restaurant's website, Lotus will no longer be offering the buffet.
Although for most on Chowhound the buffet will not necessarily be missed, it does mean that we will have to ask for Saipin's version of "Hot and Sour" soup (a Wednesday staple through the years) by request.
Wow, that's news to me.
Personally, I'm happy to see the change. Bill Chutima expressed to me, as far back as ten years ago, that he would have preferred to dump the buffet, but he felt loyalty to the locals who frequented the lunch buffet. The Chutimas "inherited" the buffet from the previous owners, and Lotus might not have kept afloat in its early years without the revenue from the buffet. In 2000 and 2001, it was not uncommon for me to eat dinner on a weeknight and see only one or two other tables occupied, but lunch business was always brisk.
I know that the Chutimas were concerned that if they took away the buffet, their buffet "regulars" might not be able to afford ala carte dining and LOS, and that would be my only concern, too.
It's in the center of the page on the bottom portion between the hours/days and address. Here is the quote so you don't have to look it up:
Dear our beloved guests,
Due to circumstances beyond our control, we regret to inform you that we will no longer be serving Lunch Buffet starting July 4th, 2014 and onward. We do apologize for any inconveniences
