What's the word on CHEZ DELMO (Old Montreal)?

Is the seafood very good?

Is the place formal?

Thanks!

The problem I think was calling it Delmo's and not having a thing to do with Delmo's past.I went last fall and was pleased with what they had done with the renovation. They kept the famous lunch bar and added an upstairs overlooking the bar. The menu was uninteresting and without a hint of Delmo's signature dishes. I was in the mood that nite for a Tomatoe Soup and a Halibut Meuniere (sound fimiliar) but alas none of the above.I went to the Host and expressed my displeasure he handled it like a pro telling me it might have been a mistake calling this restaurant Delmo's and that there was a restaurant a block down the street called The Nantua where the old Chef and some of the old employees were resident and to mention his name. It was obvious this was not the first time he has had to send a party down the street. The meal was excellent at Nantua and very much Delmo's style with a touch less butter.

      Howdy!

And now it is closed, again.

There is a sign on the door saying that they have closed for the 'saison estival' and will reopen in the fall (summer for the blokes in the house). As they are in Old Montreal, I can't imagine that the Holder brothers decided to shut up and go on vacation.

I would also assume that this means that something else will be there in the fall. Lousy news for the folk who worked there...

I have friends that worked there, and they are now out of a job. Delmo has definitely closed as of Monday.

We visited on 8/10/07 and it had just been re-opened for 5 days. Can't comment on the food as we only had a drink at the bar - but it was clean, a vast array of drinks - especially whiskey - and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. We would definitely go again -we were only in Montreal for two days from England and liked the bar so much that we visited on both days. I hope they make a success of it. Sorry we missed the seafood though!

I am fairly certain that Chez Delmo has been closed and the building sold....

Chez Delmo has been closed for about a year. The owners retired. Apparently some of the former staff have opened a sea food restaurant in Ste-Adèle which is supposedly very good

Delmo closed in November 2004. The owner died in early 2005. The building was bought by the Holder brothers in early 2006. They will be opening a new pub and restaurant sometime around the end of the year.

The former manager of Chez Delmo has opened a new restaurant with the same executive chef and kitchen staff. It is called Le Nantua and is at 275 Notre Dame. The menu is mostly the same. How exciting!! Can't wait to try it. It hasn't been the same ever since Chez Delmo closed.

I walked past this restaurant on May 29, 2006, and yes indeed, it was closed. This is sad, because this was once a good and successful restaurant where I ate many times in the 1980s and 1990s. Another time-honored institution gone the way of the dinosaur...

Yep, and here's a fact: The Holders of Brasserie Holders fame have bought it!
