[Ludlow, Shropshire] The Clive
This restaurant with rooms is on the outskirts of town and on the same site as the Ludlow Food Centre. In the same ownership (i.e. the Earl of Plymouth), it predates the Centre by some years and we had a couple of good dinners there some while back. On this trip, it was just a one course lunch.
As with all the meat, rose veal came from the Earl’s Shropshire estate. On the plate, it came as two thin escalopes, flash freid and two mini burgers. The latter were in nice firm rolls (made at the Food Centre) with a tangy relish. The escalope part of the plate sat on new potatoes with a little mixed salad and roasted cherry tomatoes. It was all really rather good.
My partner was in Veggie Vera mode and went with a spinach and chickpea samosa which tasted good but would have benefitted from another 30 seconds in the fryer to get a proper crispness and colour on the pastry. Alongside, herb couscous, raita and chutney. Another very decent plate of food.
At that point, we took a break from eating and walked over to the Food Centre for some extensive meat shopping. After which, we resumed eating in the cafe with cake and coffee. All in all, a rather good lunch stop.
