Rice Krispy treats for July 4th

I didn't think of this last time until the holiday was over. I included Trader Joe's freeze-dried banana slices (chopped into smaller bits) in a standard recipe of marshmallow krispy treats. This was delicious, and it occurred to me that a red, white, and blue version could be made by using the banana as the white, and TJ's f/d blueberries, plus either f/d raspberries or strawberries, OR sweetened dried cranberries. Using the f/d fruit maintains the desired treat texture, and their flavor is intense so you don't need to add a lot. If you do, it will overpower the basic flavor of cereal, marshmallow and butter. Actually, I used melted coconut oil because it went well with the banana, and you could chop the TJ dried coconut strips instead of banana.

    1. sounds intriguing -- if you make it, please tell us what you think

      1. Not totally on topic, but my kids and I agreed years back that adding a handful of oatmeal to rice crispy treats is delicious. Makes em taste a little nutty.

I always add 1/2 c of peanut butter to the marshmallows.

        2. When I saw the title of your post, I thought "hey, I bet these are the ones that I'm making". But they are not...I'm making these (but with a little less coating).
