Degustation now a days?

My friend is coming up for a night, and we are both very into trying new restaurants. In the past, we've done Ko, Public, Cafe Boulud, Gotham. Need to find a amazing restaurant, preferably lower manhattan. Was thinking Degustation but haven't heard much of it recently. Was also considering Minetta. What are some other cool, trendy restaurants with great food for less than $80pp?

  1. i was at Degustation for NYE 2014, regular menu, and wasn't all too impressed. have you looked at Alder?

That was another option I was looking at. I would rather go somewhere with a fixed menu though.

What are your opinions on Louro?

haven't been, personally. i've read good things and i'm sure others will comment.

    2. Did you check Eater?

Are you willing to eat super early or late? Minetta is a hard reservation to get if you're not a VIP.

      1. Try Jungsik, but you will have to order ala carte to be at $80pp

Would you recommend Louro? It seems a favorite of Chowhounds, and with the good prices we can order a lot of food and drinks.

Excellent food and cocktails but not sure it's really some place "trendy."

Louro is great. Went to Degustation a few months ago, after seeing a positive comment on CH. We hadn't been there since Wesley Genovart left. The menu was more limited and the dishes just didn't excite like before. Very disappointing.

            Carbone, maybe?

Jungsik (as previously mentioned) but not sure it fits the "trendy" criteria.

I would agree Jungsik is not trendy. Maybe it's the opposite of trendy. But it is really good.
Louro isn't especially trendy, but perhaps the younger crowd it draws makes it more trendy than jungsik. Somewhere like Chez Sardine might be trendy, or Carbone, or Spotted Pig,Minetta, hmmmm is Mermaid trendy?

Chez Sardine closes on July 7 for a revamp.

            2. Estela. I think I spent about $80 there. I'm a pretty light eater, though (and a much less light drinker). And it's not a fixed menu either, I should mention.
