          1. I will hold off my endorsement of mushrooms for a later month. I now see the folly of my ways - 'Tis definitely the season for:

            FROZEN DAIRY-BASED DESSERT PRODUCTS

            1. Wait so like sorbets and ice creams made with soy or coconut milks and other variants are not eligible if FDBD wins?

              1. re: TheOffalo

In the nominations, I suggested we try to find a wording that would permit sorbets and the like. But the originator and endorsers loved Frozen Dairy-Based Dessert Products. But I assure you, if it wins and you post in the month's thread, reviews and photos of sorbets and the like certainly won't be disallowed.

                1. re: nosh

Then just word it "frozen dessert products"...

                2. re: TheOffalo

There's no gatekeeper on the DOTM thread...we've had posters post dishes from other COUNTRIES in the LA DOTM thread.

if ya'll follow that line of thinking...

                  1. re: TheOffalo

I just realized I had capitalized the letters in the comment above. That was not meant as a vote. Not sure if it was counted as a vote. My official vote is below.

                    1. re: wienermobile

just ask will owen, we already know the only thing good that is chicken fried here in LA is chicken!

                      1. re: wienermobile

I think my next DOTM nomination will be BISCUITS. I'm all a-drool, here. (No disrespect intended to the sexy chicken-fried in the pic, of course.)

                        1. re: spoonlicker

then another month where popeyes is all one needs to know...chicken, bisquits, red beans n rice...

                            1. re: jessejames

Popeyes is good for red beans and rice. But for fried chx and biscuits, try Honey's Kettle.

                              1. re: bulavinaka

I like the chicken and bisquits there too...for me the crust on the chicken a bit much but maybe you're right about the biscuits being a notch above popeyes....I just can't f'ing deal with the service there...it's like they want to f with you it's so bad...but no complaints when my culver city friends bring it over on NFL days....sigh, long ways to go before some real sports on tv.

                                1. re: jessejames

I agree about the service issues - that is what drove us away in the past (literally years ago). We decided to give them another shot in January (was desperate for good yardbird). The service was fine and hasn't been an issue during recent visits. We usually go in the early evenings if that makes a difference.

I used to be an avid fan of sports but the major three in this country are now inundated with freaks and criminals. Hockey is my default sport. It ain't perfect but the personalities are comparitively far less distracting. Sorry for the soap box moment.

                                  1. re: bulavinaka

Sounds good. I'll give em another shot. I love going to see the kings in person but have a hard time with hockey on TV. Certainly a good run for the home team last few years! But i go for the bruins and try persuading my friends that brad Marchand isn't a criminal!

                                2. re: bulavinaka

does honey kettle sell 2 pieces of chicken for 1.29 on tuesdays and thursdays?

                                  1. re: ns1

no but I know someone that does! or 4 for 2.58, or...well, you do the math!

                                    1. re: ns1

No 1.29 days. But for me, I'll pay the mark up. The two closest Popeyes for me are Inglewood and Midtown - closest is 15-20 minutes. Both do brisk business so I'm guessing good turnover, and they usually ask if I want to wait for a fresh batch. But even still - the oil tastes tired and the biscuits are just ok. I have no issues with Honey's Kettle's quality and prefer their goods, as does our whole family.

                                      1. re: bulavinaka

Bull I agree on he family front. KFC is for dad. Popeyes not too far. Roscoes and this other 99 cent BBQ spot just west of it on pico have solid yardbird to go too. I'm glad the service has gotten better at honey. don't even get me started!

                            2. Fried Chicken and Waffles ice cream from Coolhaus!

                                      ...dear god....they use CHICKEN SKINS.

If the MPAA rated FROZEN DAIRY-BASED DESSERT PRODUCTS, that right there would warrant an XXX classification.

                                  2. re: TheOffalo

some hound has to review that choco-chicken place!

                                        1. re: jessejames

They've gotten some surprisingly good reviews…white chocolate butter on the corn on the cob.

                                          1. re: wienermobile

I'm just wondering how this works with hot sauce. Sort of a required condiment for this yardbird eating hound.

                                            1. re: wienermobile

Maybe it's just me or they are very good at not overpowering the main ingredient but I would think the chocolate would completely overpower the stuff to the point where it's chocolate with chicken on the side.

I'd be more intrigued with Mole fried chicken. Funnily enough, I just checked Rocio's menu to see if she had it :(

                                              1. re: polldeldiablo

But her non-fried chicken with mole of choice is very good.
Maybe non-fried chicken could be a nominee for another month, meaning any other format.

                                    1. FRIED CHICKEN and Chicken Fried

                                        1. FROZEN DAIRY-BASED DESSERT PRODUCTS

                                          1. FRIED CHICKEN, no chicken fried - sorry Will.

                                            1. FRIED CHICKEN AND CHICKEN FRIED

                                              1. FROZEN DAIRY-BASED DESSERT PRODUCTS

                                                1. Oh wow... since I really don't care between the two vote-getters, my actual choice would be:

                                                  MUSHROOMS

                                                    1. re: Dirtywextraolives

ok, but please do not start a trend of abbreviating.

                                                      1. Do we have a winner? Sure hope it is FROZEN DAIRY-BASED DESSERT PRODUCTS, because I had a fantastic dessert tonight at home. Sweet Rose Creamery Vanilla Ice Cream with Weiser Farms Persian Mulberries.

Please don't use all-caps to disguise a possible second vote.

Sorry. My intent was not to "disguise a possible second vote." Cheating is not my style I just wanted to draw your attention to the thread. Will be more judicious in my use of caps in the future.

                                                            1. re: maudies5

exactly what i presumed, maudies5. no suspicion of cheating, so easy to spot one of the first and then last. but i don't want to have to list voters when i count, so similar admonition about abbreviations.

                                                        2. As of right now, 8:32 pacific time, it is 8 votes for Fried Chicken and chicken fried vs. 7 votes for Frozen Dairy-Based Dessert Products. I'll probably tuck it in for bed and publish the July DOTM page about 10, so get any final votes in now.
