Ad floating over text on iPhone

LNG212 Jun 20, 2014 12:36 PM

Twice now a Home Depot as has appeared in the middle if my iPhone over the text if the thread that I'm reading. And it won't go away. I try hitting the little "x" on it to no avail. It blocks any access to the page too - I can't enlarge anything to be sure I hit the "x" properly.

I've never experienced an ad in the middle if my phone like this on Chowhound. Can you please get rid of this type?!!! The jumping ad at the top and the Breyers ad that takes up the top half of the phone are bad enough!

Thanks.

Has happened twice more just in the time since I posted. Looks like I'm off CH for a few hours as I can't seem to work around it (not even to scroll past it).
    :-(

Hi there, if you continue to see this ad type, we'd appreciate if you could take a screenshot to help us in our investigation.

On an iPhone, press the home and sleep buttons simultaneously. For Android, directions here depending on your OS: http://lifehacker.com/5994516/how-to-...

      Thanks for the heads up!

I think I got it. It's really annoying. And it's always Home Depot.

Ling -- I also get Home Depot ads that Absolutely Dominate my iPhone-- however, they are location-based popups that are connected to a GPS app that I use.
But they pop up when the app is running, even if it's NOT the one I have on top.
      .
Is there any chance you have another app open that could pull in the HD ad?

Hmmm not sure. Next time it happens I'll check to see what else is running. Thanks for the tip. The curious thing is that it only happens in CH. I haven't seen it in any other web page open in safari.

For what it's worth I have just started getting these tonight. Thus far I've been able to "x" them closed but it takes several attempts.

Not that I'm happy you're getting it ... but I'm glad it's not just me! ;-)

The powers that be here have never responded, unfortunately.

While I did experience it was sporadic at best and as I mentioned I was able to "x" it out. They finally did respond asking for a screen-shot, if you can supply them with one. I will too if it happens again.

          I got it too........

This is how it starts, it locks the page so nothing function for about 30 seconds, then appliances come floating out of the ad, then it expands becomes larger and you can "X" it out.

It's back again today after a long absence. I had hoped you fixed things. :-(

I hadn't, but it seems like it could be related. I'll need a screenshot to be sure, so if you're able to capture one if would be much appreciated!

Here it is (along with another of the The Home Depot floating ads.)

Has anyone else had a message cover a thread that is black with white lettering that says to "Rotate Your Device"? The x in the upper right corner seems to be unoperable in collapsing the window. I rortate my device but cannot 'scroll' down.

                  Yes. Two or three times.
I rotate, always to vertical from horiz, then shake slightly, then I get an X.

I get the x but when I click on it, nothing happens.

Not to pedant, but do you go for the X 15-30sec.s after you've rotated?

I don't remember, but I've tried several times. It has not happened since I posted, of course.

Thanks for the screen shots jrvedivici and John E. Our ad ops department is still working on this.
