BYOB in Charlotte?

I'm going to be moving to Charlotte from Des Moines, Iowa where we have quite a few restaurants where you can bring your own wine or beer. Some, but not all charge a minimal corkage fee. Are there restaurants like this around Charlotte? Fill me in Charlotte foodies.

  1. Are you wanting to bring a special bottle of wine or beer? Most restaurants serve, at a minimum, beer and wine. Some allow you to bring in your own bottle of wine but they typically charge a corkage fee. We have a small local chain of restaurants called 131 Main (great place, by the way) and I know that they are one of the few local establishments that do not charge a corkage fee (at least the last that I've heard).

We have several ethnic restaurants that do not serve alcohol, but I'm not certain how they would handle such a situation. I suppose on a case-by-case basis, depending on the restaurant.

Sorry I'm not of more help. Generally speaking, it's not common practice here. I know back in PA it was more common because the state only issued a very limited # of liquor licenses to establishments so the new restaurants that couldn't get a license just allowed folks to bring their own. That's not an issue here in NC.

    Welcome to Charlotte!
