Interesting news about the Halal Guys

  1. I hope they are a raging success- but when i went with a few out of towners on a weekday at lunch they had stacked pre-prepared tins with the rice and salad already inside, and their chicken was shredded into tiny bits, with no apparent char from a grill, and served from a hotel pan that was ontop of the unused grill. Meat of choice flopped ontop and premade mini cups of sauce tossed in the bag.
My visitors were disappointed. I understand this allows them to serve more people faster yet i hope this is not what their brick and mortar locations will do.

It's been like that for quite some time now. If you want char and meat chunks not nubbins and shreds, you have to go elsewhere. Nice guys, though.

Was there ever char? At any Halal cart? They are all cooked on the griddle not grill.

Maybe not char, but definitely browning and even crispiness. The Halal Guys meat is mostly steamed in texture these days.

If I don't see the meat on the griddle, I move on to the next vendor. There's always another within 2 block radius.

      2. Reading between the lines ... owner is cashing out and retiring.

        Good for him.
