Pye Boat Noodles
"Pye Boat Noodle – Thai Noodle and Street Food Restaurant 35-13 Broadway, Astoria, New York " That is Broadway between Steinway M and R, and the N Train Broadway.
The Pye Boat Noodle House, on Broadway, is very nice.
The atmosphere like most all Thai venues in NYC is very comfortable, and the noodles are filled with choices.
I had the BEEF noodle dish, with the flat wide noodle. The BEEF was incredibly tender, and high quality, as opposed to cheap beef.
There were BEEF BALLS also.
Sugar was an issue but they were honest, and stated the broth was sweet, but during the creation of the dish there is no sugar added.
I separated the broth and put hefty portions of their own crushed red dried peppers, that they crush themselves. The sour liquidy pepper of green was also applied by myself, at the table. I also put some of the fresh raw pepper slices, that swim in water, on to the separated from broth noodles and accompanying veggies and BEEF.
The broth was a bit sweet, though not overly sweet. The noodles had no sweet taste at all, as they were separated, and I drank the very delightful broth, from a small bowl on the side, as my mouth reverberated with incredible heat and other flavors of of meat and veggies, from the dish.
They will ask you what noodles you would like, for all the noodle dished. I did not get an inventory of choices, but there are a few. They have dry noodles, which are stir fried.
They have curry dishes as well.
The cooks are delightful women, and all the staff the day I went were women. This was quite the treat, as I felt as it I was in the midst of a matriarchy.
Wonderful smiling and friendly service.
Well worth investigating, until you try all the menu items.
I had the Beef Noodle soup with the thin rice noodles and it was delicious. The portion is generous and the beef , as Jonkyo noted, is of a good quality.
They say that for the time being they are not going to expand the menu but rather perfect what they are cooking now.
Unfortunately the Iced coffee is pre made, including sugar, so I expect that if you don't like it real sweet it would not be for you. i refrained.
