Posting after a thread has been locked

How is chowser posting in that closed "So.... racist remarks are okay, but...." thread after it got closed?

  1. EFGM, I've noticed this a number of times. I'm guessing they announce it before the mechanics of locking it take place.

PS: I loved her parting shot :)

    1. It's a somewhat annoying side effect of how our lock function works. People who still have the thread open in their browser from before we lock it can still leave replies until they reload the page.

Ahhh, cool thanks, that's what I thought.
You can get rid of this thread.

        1. I'm magic. I have to say this might be the first time in my life that I got the last word in and now I know how to do it. Keep contentious threads open in my browser...

Oh man, I don't think I've ever gotten the last word: I am jealous.

            1. re: coll

And now you know the secret! I'm off to find more contentious threads...the heady feeling of power for once in my life!

                1. re: chowser

I know! I can keep that one open and then open a second CH. Oooooohhhhh, Jacq should never have told the truth :) 'Course they'll just delete the crap out of us!

                  1. re: c oliver

Nah, you guys go ahead and dream your dreams and scheme your schemes.

Just keep in mind that our only guaranteed workaround for getting someone to stop posting in a thread we've locked is suspending their account and leaving it suspended for long enough that we're certain that they'll have had to reload the thread.

And I have no idea how long that is, so I'd have to err on the side of caution...

                    1. re: Jacquilynne

When was the last time you were told that you're an evil, evil woman? :)

                      1. re: Jacquilynne

I'm just imagining being the only poster allowed to post on a locked thread, It would be a personal playground. But I'll behave.

                        1. re: chowser

That's like my dream, only the playground I'm locked into is high end steakhouse with an unbelievably well stocked bar.

Oh, and I'm pretty sure I don't behave.

                          1. re: MGZ

Oh sure, I thought you told me off the boards your "dream" included being locked in a steakhouse with me! What I'm not good enough for you to include in front of all your friends?

                2. re: chowser

Would this be a good time/place to mention you can still recommend posts within a locked thread? I did. I loved your "parting shot".

                  1. re: mcsheridan

Thanks! I just read it and can't get over the grammatical errors. Yikes.

                    1. re: chowser

Get over them; nobody can call you on grammar in that post now. :)

                    2. re: mcsheridan

I noticed that awhile back and do it.

                      1. re: mcsheridan

I've noticed that as well, I guess since a recommend in a locked thread neither adds nor subtracts it really doesn't matter.

                        1. re: hill food

But if someone comes across the thread, I think rec's are meaningful.

                          1. re: c oliver

yes, but a rec doesn't add to even a 'live' talk really

                    3. This is sort of odd because I have attempted to post on a thread that was locked while I was typing and when I attempted to post, I was not allowed because the thread was locked, or is it possible that was threads that were deleted while I was typing? I don't see too many deleted threads, so color me confused.

it's OK John, we'll wake you when we get there.

                        1. re: John E.

I think the post you were replying to had been deleted. I've had that happen a number of times.

                        2. Related ISSUE??

IN the MIDDLE of typing a comment, a "1" showed up as recommended, as if by the poster of the comment directly above mine.

                          HOW. did. that. happen!?

Post above it: HAHAHA! Oh my! I think they'd charge
