Finding Good Bourbon in LA

I'm flying to LA soon, and will be staying with a friend who's a bourbon enthusiast. Does anyone know of a liquor store with a selection of unusual (not necessarily rare or expensive) bourbons? A store that specializes in whiskey would be a plus.

  1. near LAX there is a liquor store that is located in a tiny warehouse area.
    it is called:
    Beverage Warehouse
4935 McConnell Ave #21, Los Angeles, CA 90066
    (310) 306-2822

they are at the very back of the complex.

i've bought Gentleman Jack and Buffalo Trace from them.
iirc, i've seen Bulleit, and Eagle Rare there as well.
i like this store a lot, but be aware, they are not open as late as any of the chain retail operations.

    1. hi time wines or K and L will have excellent selections and prices

      1. It's hard to find any bourbon that's too unusual on the shelf these days, but your best bets (including those previously mentioned) are:

        K&L in Hollywood
        Hi-Time in Costa Mesa
        Mission Liquors in Pasadena
Wine & Liquor Depot in Van Nuys
        Beverage Warehouse in West LA
        Wine House in West LA

Of these, I'd agree with Dapma that K&L and Hi-Time are really the top of the heap. K&L may be the only one that has special barrel selections made just for them, though Hi-Time could have them as well.

The place in Van Nuys used to be known for it's Scotch selection. I haven't been out to LA in quite a while, I'm in NYC. I used to buy interesting rums there.

Beverage Warehouse 4935 McConnell Ave #21, Los Angeles, Also had an interesting selection of spirits

That Van Nuys place, Wine & Liquor Depot, used to have one of the best Scotch selections in the country, but it's declined a lot. Still decent, but nothing amazing anymore.

Sad to hear that. From downtown it was quite a detour as michelin used to say

        2. Thanks for the suggestions. I'll have time to check out at least a couple of these places, so I should be able to find a good thank-you gift. Much appreciated.
