Vinh Sun Closed?

Carty Jun 9, 2014 06:28 AM

Some sort of notice about a court order in the window (should have taken a pic, sorry) no BBQ meat in the window.

Establishment looks very empty. Anyone know what is going on? And, very importantly, where should I be going now for char siu?

I'm eating the roast duck from that joint next to dumpling house, it's pretty tasty, better than hk eatery's by a slim margin. there's also that sketchy/authentic bbq place next to hei lai moon although I feel like the duck they use is not too great

I never liked Vinh-Sun. Just go a couple doors down to Quic Pic, it's the best.

Quic Pic really does have the best BBQ. And I tried pretty much all the places in the area (by Hei La Moon, by Best Little, the hole in the wall close to Taiwan Cafe).
The only thing I liked about Vinh Sun was their vegetable choice. I like napa cabbage, but prefer crisp bitter greens. Oh and I thought their wontons were pretty nice.
Chinatown Cafe has the best crispy pork by a wide margin, though, but it's not close to the other restaurants.

I've never eaten at Chinatown Cafe but a few years ago the guy who runs Winsor told me he thinks Wing (of the original Wing's Kitchen) works there now. So I really should check it out since Wing always treated me and my friends well--I even got a tour of the kitchen when his wife was working there, but sadly took no pictures.

Sad. I was just thinking about their sticky rice with bacon and sausage after trying the Clay Pot Cafe rice. I don't like non-sticky rice, but I really like sticky rice. They were also open late, unlike so many other places.
