A Bellingham driveby report
On our way back from Portland, we were able to stop at a couple of spots in sunny Bellingham. First we hit Kulshan's to try some beer and a food truck. Alas it wasn't the food truck listed so we demurred -- nothing against cheesesteaks! The beer sampler was well priced and showed off Kulshan's wares nicely, and their patio is a good spot to while away an hour. Loved the 75 cent whole peanuts and the fact that the whole place save just at the bar welcomes kids.
We pushed on to Old World Deli which looked lovely but wasn't quite the ticket for us that day either. Just down the street we found what we desired: the butifarra sanguche and a couple of sides at Café Rumba. We washed them down with a maracuya (passionfruit) juice. Side of potato came with the sandwich, the choclo or Peruvian corn was fun to try. Some pix: sampler, front door, and peanuts at Kulshan; interior, butifarra outside and in, choclo at Café Rumba.
Well done, GE !
So the BBQ truck isn't always at Kulshan ? Cheesecake truck beside a brewpub ? .... un-orthodox ! :-)
Another BBQ truck is Bare Bones BBQ, by default on N. State at the Applied Digital Imaging parking lot Mon to Fri:
Saturdays on Meridian & Smith. But the Urbanspoon info is out-of-date and incorrect (never on Hannegan anymore). Kelly's a good guy and puts a lot of heart into what he does.
Kelly can also be found out at Noon Road and Mt. Baker Hwy. Agreed on the good guy - he smoked a prime rib for us several Christmases ago.
StreatFood is also at Kulshan, and both Bare Bones and StreatFood can now be found at Wander Brewery on Ohio near Cornwall. They are both good with the updates on Facebook as to their whereabouts.
