Opera Tavern [London]

  • 1

Last year, we were in London prior to a cruise that sailed from Southampton to Barcelona. As a result, we passed on eating at Opera Tavern. Having eaten dinner there this year, I'm a little sorry we passed. The tapas were as good as any we ate in Barcelona.

We had a delightful server who offered who identified the four most memorable dishes: Iberico Presa with Chicken Jus, Courgette Flower Stuffed with Goat's cheese, Chargrilled Octopus with Chickpea fritter, and Mini Iberico Pork and Foie Gras burger. We ordered two of those dishes along with the Roasted Beetroot Salad for our first round of tapas. When we finished those three dishes, we ordered the remaining two along with two portioned-for-one dishes. My husband had the Duck Breast with Mustard Fruit and I had the Cornish Scallop with Guanciale. The scallop, while perfectly cooked with a lovely taste didn't have the wow factor of the other dishes. We should not have split the mini-burger because it deconstructed in the cutting reducing some of the appeal since each bite didn't contain a taste of all the elements.

Definitely an experience that lived up to all the advance praise.

  1. I haven't eaten at Opera Tavern, but we have tried a couple of their sister restaurants - Ember Yard and Salt Yard, and I'd highly recommend them.
