Between Sacto and Ashland

  • 5

on my way to see Mt. Shasta for the first time. Looking for places to eat or to buy groceries. It looks like the towns would be Red Bluff , Redding , Mt.Shasta , Weed, Yreka, and Ashland. However, I would be interested in anything between where I 505 intersects I 5 north of Sacramento and the border. Thanks for your help chowhounds.

  1. One of my favorite places around there is the Olive Pitt, which sells loads of various types of olives and other food specialties.

They have a cafe in the complex, but I have never eaten there.

It was only a day after my post on the Olive Pit that I saw a banner ad for it on the California board. Great job, CH Sales!

    2. Here's a board search on "Mt Shasta"

      1. I've been up that way a few times but I've never done any what you'd call fine dining in the area.

For basic diner food, I like the Hi-Lo in Weed. Had a very good Reuben there; stuff like meatloaf, fried chicken, etc. is pretty decent.

As of last December there was an Asian market in Weed, on Main St. just off US 97. Can't guarantee it's still there.

Had some pretty good beer at Mt. Shasta Brewing Co. Didn't try any of the food.

        1. Cafe Maddalena Dunsmiur. Great Restaurant!
