O Face Doughnuts

Had a nice breakfast at O Face Doughnuts in Downtown Las Vegas this morning. Quite competent coffee went well with both savory and sweet doughnuts.

They have several savory doughnuts, which are tubular, not, well doughnut shaped, and stuffed with fillings. A friend and I split the smoked salmon and cream cheese doughnut, which was stuffed with cream cheese, smoked salmon, capers, and dill. The dill was a nice touch and came through well; the cream cheese was perfectly warmed, but not fully liquid, and even though the salmon got a bit more cooked than it ideally should have been, the whole effect was terrific --- a fresh pastry on the outside encasing a delicious filling.

We also split a mix-berry doughnut which I thought was just terrific being both light and airy as well as appropriately oily, and with a delicious mixed-berry jam inside, and nice lemon zest and a touch of glaze on the outside.

I was less impressed by the mexican chocolate doughnut, which I found too heavy, although the horchata-like creamy filling inside was pretty tasty.

I also bought a key lime pie doughnut and a vegan rosewater/pistachio doughnut to go. The key lime pie doughnut was only okay --- the key lime flavor was muted and overwhelmed by the heavy filling. The rosewater/pistachio doughnut had a great texture, but also muted flavored and lacked an interesting filling like the mixed berry doughnut. In fact, I also took out another mixed berry doughnut which was just as good several hours later.

Good place, nice people, but my advice is to try a couple different doughnuts as they are quite different and some might be to your taste, while others not as much.
