Asian market on ABQ Westside?

Anyone know of an Asian market on the West side of ABQ in the Cottonwood/Alameda area? Something along the lines of Talin with fresh produce, bamboo leaves, turmeric root, etc. A quick search turns up nothing.

  1. The closest thing I can think of is a place just called Asian Market in Rio Rancho. Don't know if it's open anymore, and I doubt they have or had a great selection. I'm pretty sure there aren't any other Asian markets on that side of the river. My parents know a lot of Indians and other Asians who live on the West side and they're always grousing about having to drive all the way to Talin and Bombay Spice to get Asian ingredients.

The West side branch of La Montanita isn't too bad in a pinch though. They don't have bamboo leaves, kaffir lime leaves, Sichuan peppercorns, or anything too far off the Western mainstream, but they often have fresh turmeric root, fresh ginger, and those tiny overpriced plastic packs of lemongrass and other herbs.

Thank you, ninrn. That's what I thought too. I shop at the West side Co-op often and pay exorbitant prices for organic turmeric root when I'm desperate, otherwise get it at Talin or Bombay Spice. It's a bit of a hike for me so when I go, I stock up and freeze as much as I can. Sounds like a business opportunity for a savvy retailer on the west side :-)
