Costco/Chips & guac question

ceekskat Jun 2, 2014 10:44 AM

Need to buy enough tortilla chips & guac for 24 teens(seniors). There will be others supplying more of this & other foods for a total of 150 kids. My question is will the guac at Costco (organic, 3 pack 16 oz. each) be enough for 24? I am fairly certain their 5lb Las Fortunitas chips will be sufficient :)

That works out to 1/4 C guac per kid. I don't eat guac so I can't comment on whether that seems appropriate... I just do the math... but if it were salsa, I would say get more.

My experience is that young adults are like a swarm of locusts. It doesn't matter how much you put out, they'll eat it all. I think the 3-pack with the 5 lb bag of chips would be enough, not to satiate them, but to fulfill your obligation to provide chips and guac.

This was my thinking...there will be brownies, fruits, mini sandwiches, etc.

        Thanks all for your replies.

I guess it will depend on what the others bring. You may need to make a few calls.

This site recommends a pint of dip for every ten guests, so theoretically you should have enough. But teen boys like their chips and dip…

It sounds like for your situation it should be fine since others will be supplementing the meal as well.....

Is there really sub a thing as "enough" guacamole for teenagers?

In my experience, it's always been either too much, or not enough.

imho, 3lb of guac for 24 kids will not be nearly enough.
the kids are not likely to feel obligated to spread their eating throughout all the offerings equally.

it depends on whether you are trying to really be sure the need is met or whether all you really want to do is "fulfill your obligation."
i NEVER approach these sorts of things the latter way. . . .

Don't know which guac you have at your store, but our 3-packs are only 10 ounces each (less than 2-lbs). I'd get at least 3 of the 10-ounce packs or 2 if they really are 16 ounces.
