SF Chinatown Bargains - Fruit!

walking down Stockton St. today: cherries are $1.99 lb in most places and they look decent. strawberries: 1 lb clamshells - 2 for $1.10 - from Dole. Blueberries 1 lb clamshell for $1.39. Rasberries - 6oz clamshell for 50 cents! Conventional - like you'd find in most supermarkets .... not organic. One store on Stockton St. near Washington - East side of Stockton had big displays of bargain priced fruit on the sidewalk.

  1. Go for it. In Chicago cherries are $8 lb---have not seen them for less anywhere. Hope I am wrong about that.

    1. Interesting, yesterday (Friday) most places that had cherries (and not every green grocer did) had them priced at $2.50 to $2.99/lb.

I saw multiple stores on Stockton St. with $1.99 lb cherries ..... even saw some Raniers for $1.99 but they were $2.99 at others. The bings had pretty good color but the Raniers looked pretty pale overall.

I live near Chinatown, and have to walk through to and from work. Most shop lower the price for fruit at the end of the day, and it's usually cheaper on weekdays.

I saw cherries as low as $1.69/lb in the last week.

Bought some cherries at $1.69/lb yesterday (on the even side of Stockton btwn Jackson & Pacific). Looked good but not all tasted sweet. Most of the other stores were $1.99. This store also had 4-lb boxes of strawberries for $2.99.

I didn't need that much, so I went across the street and one store had the 1-lb boxes for 50 cents each (from Colleen Strawberries in Watsonville).

      2. Yesterday many of the stores on Stockton had fresh lychees for $1.99/lb. They looked good--firm, good color, not bruised--, but my fruit bin is already overflowing, so I passed.
