any hair i find in my meal better be long and straight.

    2. serves porn.

Opening June 2nd at a theatre near you.

      1. Can't wait to dive in.

But Asian Street Dust sounds like PCP slung by prostitutes.

The article you linked to was from Jan but was good background. Here's today's article about the opening, which TonyC mentioned: http://la.eater.com/archives/2014/05/...

"Nguyen" is spelled wrong in that article.

Also, anyone know when the DTLA location is opening? I wanna go downtown to chow on some asian box.

I've had occasion to peruse the SF board as a result of your post and visit (good hounding). Lots of great hounds in SF, but I enjoy our pack better.

just trying to keep it fun -- you too!

              2. We get that this restaurant has a funny name, and that being not yet open, there's not much else to discuss, but can we ask that people let these jokes go now? Thanks.

Jokes aside, I am legitimately interested in this place. It's clearly a lot like ShopHouse, which I expected would disappoint me, but I actually like a lot. The menu is linked below. Like ShopHouse, all items are gluten free.

Curious to see how the two will compare.

Looks like you can try Asian Box Monday. Wonder if a Grand Opening or something more modest. Link didn't say.

Did u get into Asian box yet? Burbank is open

                      1. re: jessejames

Haha not yet. I'm in Santa Monica and usually car-less. Burbank is a long way to go for Asian Box.

I'll update if I hit it up. Hopefully with pictures.

                        1. re: phamschottler

                          One can only hope. ;>)

Tried the pork and beef yesterday. To me it's better than shophouse. The protein was not over cooked like at shophouse.

June 4: "Thanks for the opening love"

                          1. re: cartbaby

The beef at SH is definitely overcooked but I find the meatballs to always be done just right.

                            1. re: TheOffalo

Completely agree with this -- SH beef is always too dry, but the meatballs are consistently great (at both Santa Monica and Westwood locations). Chicken is usually good (tender, juicy, well seasoned), but meatballs are better.

AB offers shrimp though, which I'd love to try.

                                Have you hit this yet?

                        2. munch box?

                          1. as always, yelp delivers

                            http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/asian-...

seems horrendously overpriced for the size.

Nice spread and I like more meat inside too.

                            2. Munched my first Asian Box this afternoon. Pricier and not as good as ShopHouse. Fewer options. Couldn't split the meat.

                                Nuts on top of course.

                                Did you finish?

                                1. re: jessejames

Of course but I did leave some stuff in the box.

Good to have some napkins handy still

                              2. We have one in Palo Alto here in the Bay Area and I must say I like it. It fills that niche of quick, not too expensive, relatively healthy and tasty that it one would think would be more common but unfortunately isn't. The beef and pork are both pretty darn good and I like the pickled veggies and variety of sauces. Perfect for a quick lunch.
