  1. If your serious, go to Belon.

Oysters taste like where they came from, and a "Belon" (Ostrea Edulis) cultivated in the US will taste pretty much the same as a regular oyster (Crassostrea Virginica) grown in the same waters.

Even most FRENCH (your emphasis) Edulis oysters don't come from Belon.

While you're on the East Coast, just stick with Virginica.

      Really. Stay on the plane.

    2. Not possible in the USA.

Unless the law has changed very recently, the FDA does NOT allow import of shellfish from the EU into the USA.

Can this really be true? I often see vongole (small clams) from Italy in the fish stores on Arthur Avenue.

Raw or cooked? Raw isn't allowed:

Raw..in netted bags marked with Italian label. Granted, this was last fall, so perhaps they no longer sell them.

      2. Yup. The belons here are farmed in beds in Maine.

        1. talk to Julie - she rocks but yeah no French Belons.... http://twitter.com/inahalfshell and http://www.inahalfshell.com/

          1. Why not feast on local East Coast oysters?? Grand Central Oyster Bar has an amazing selection and if you feast at the actual oyster bar it is a step back in time. Enjoy!!
