Melbourne Chinatown sushi bar - I know it's a long shot
Hello Melbourne hounds!
My husband and I met in Melbourne 9 years ago while studying abroad, and we will be returning next year to celebrate 10 years since we were there (and my graduation from medical school). I've started making a list of places we want to make sure we re-visit when we return. I know it's a long shot, but I figured if one site would be able to help me find one particular place I haven't been able to remember clearly it would be Chowhound. We had what was technically our first date at a little sushi place in Chinatown while we were studying in Melbourne. From what we both remember, it was a small place (maybe 10-15 tables at most) very close to the Chinatown gate. The sushi menu was a list of ingredients and you could build your own sushi rolls with 1, 2, or 3 ingredients. From what I can remember the sushi bar was on the left when you walked in and the tables were on the right side of the restaurant.
Let me know if you have any clue what I'm talking about. I have tried to google sushi places in Chinatown but I'm coming up short since it is hard to find menus or pictures online from smaller places.
I'll definitely be back for more restaurant suggestions when we get closer to our trip!
By the location, my guess would be Yuriya. It's been there quite a long time, but it seems to be teppanyaki so I'm not sure if its the wrong place or it has changed since you were there. Have a look at the website and see if you recognise it. The other sushi places are not really in Chinatown so I rules them out.
Otherwise, when you're here, just start from the gate and walk around a bit, it's not that big. Have another place as a backup of course.
There are quite a few near the grand red arches
Saki Sushi Bar
Sukura Kaiten Sushi
I would go to yelp and look at the menus and use google maps to look at the outside of them
