St. George Greek Festival 2014

Hello friends! Yesterday I was walking around town and saw a sign for the Greek Festival at St. George Community Center at 8th and Spruce Streets May 29th-June 1st. Looking forward to it!

  1. AND... there's one out here at St. Sophia's on Trooper Rd. off of the Rt. 422 Audubon-Trooper exit. I've passed it for years and will definitely get there for a food sampling this year.

It's great - indoor food 'restaurant' and outdoor food on the weekend.

We'll be there on Saturday! We went last year and thoroughly enjoyed the food (outdoors).

Chef: Went to St. Sophia's last year. It's the real deal.

The calamari is worth the drive alone. It's the first I've tasted that resembles what I had at the Delphi Club off of Constitution Square in Athens. And that was 1971. Breaded in front of you, deep fried and served sizzling. The gyros are also authentic. There's Greek beer and a choice of eight fresh-baked pastries. The fries, chicken souvlaki and the fresh pita pizzas also looked tempting.

The festival runs today until 10 (I think) and tomorrow from 12 until 5. Greek music and dancing this evening. Calamari fans - you must!

We never miss St. Sophia's. The indoor 'restaurant' is great with a ton of choices. Waiting in the line I've ended up changing my mind multiple times. This year we shared the Yemista, Greek Meatballs, Spanakopita, Dolmas, and some delicious tzatiki. All the food is terrific, and mix in the Greek beer, the music and the pastries to boot and it's a great night.

        2. Festival is this weekend! Enjoying my gyro now!
