NYC style Eggrolls?

Hi, Everyone! I just moved to Houston a few months ago, and I can't find a decent NYC style eggroll anywhere! I've been to China Garden, Kam's, and a few other places, and none of the eggrolls that I've had are anything like the ones I used to get in the NYC area. The wrapper is thick, has a bubbly texture that crisp on the outside, chewy on the inside, the cabbage is still somewhat crisp, and there are bits of Chinese barbequed pork inside. Here's a link to an LA Chowhound thread that describes the style of eggroll that you find in the NYC area:

Anyone know where I can find this style of eggroll in Houston?

  1. Try Hong Kong Chef in Bellaire. The eggroll sounds similar without the bbq pork. It's a small hole in the wall, cash only. A reviewer on Yelp says it's the only New York style Chinese he's found in Houston. We like the shrimp kew and wonton soup. The soup has lots of wontons, pork slices, and vegetables. We get the regular version. Curious as to your favorite pizza in town? Remember, cash only, no website.
