New food vendors and bar at Jones Beach

EM23 May 23, 2014 01:24 PM

"From Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day, a SmorgasBar featuring five to six food vendors booths alongside a shipping-container bar will be open at Jones Beach, at the Central Mall."

I'm guessing this is what the Trump catering hall is becoming? Or is it really just booths (and shipping containers) along the boardwalk, like a fair?

I don't get to Field 4 much anymore, so will await your review ;-)

It's run by Brooklyn Flea, so I'm pretty sure that they are independent vendors…and your average shipping container/bar;-)
For all the damage she did to L.I., Sandy saved us from that monstrosity by the sea that Trump was planning.

I'm a big fan of Smorgasburg (I go at least once a month); from what I see, though, these aren't particularly the "wow" venders from it--and Smorgasburg itself has about 100 vendors, not five to six.

Maybe they're testing the waters with a small operation first? I guess it's better than the concession stand.

Didn't they say something about rotating them? The vendors and the market are probably checking the situation out, it's something very different and who knows the price point and so on.

Plus they said a bar, but it sounds like just beer and Margarita/frozen type drinks. I was hoping for another Ruby's!

            What's Ruby's?

A great bar and clam bar etc at Coney Island. The kind of place you can hang for hours and meet lots of new friends.

Maybe. Of the full version in Williamsburg, Mario Batali said it was "the single greatest thing I've ever seen gastronomically in New York City."

              It's on my short list.

We just returned from the beach.
All of this, at least from what was featured today, is a must avoid. Marginally better than any concession stand. And we saw Friendly's replaced by Red Mango. Price is still $5.75 for a little ice cream...

Sort of what I figured. We hang at Gilgo anyway ;-)

              That's too bad.
On the plus side, you must have seen the Blue Angels!

                Was it overcrowded?

it was scarcely populated this past Saturday beach wide in comparison to the shutting down of the Wantagh Parkway in some previous years
