Saffron Infused Gin - where can I buy it?

  • 8

Now that Rendezvous in Cambridge is closing, I'm determined to learn how to make their Nehru cocktail. I know i could infuse the gin with saffron myself, but there are pre-infused gins out there, and I am lazy. Anyone know where I could buy it anywhere in the Commonwealth?

  1. I've seen the Gabriel Boudier Saffron Gin at Astor Place Wines and Spirits in NYC, but haven't looked for it in Boston. (Sorry, that's all I can offer.)

What cocktail recipe/proportions do you plan to use? It sounds like Rendezvous infused their own gin, which could result in a different flavor profile (I've read that the Boudier gin is a little sweet).

Yes, that's the brand I've seen online. I've checked around a bit, but no luck so far.

      This is my starting point:

I should've thought of this in my original reply: Brix wine/spirits (locations downtown and in the south end) is usually very willing to special order spirits that they don't have in stock. You should get in touch with them. Prices are relatively reasonable, even for special orders.

"If you are looking for a particular wine or spirit and can't find it, let us do the work for you. We'll research the availability and price of your request."

Astor Place Wines is awesome. Wish we had something like that here.

From what I recall from what Scott said, it was a quick and easy infusion. A small pinch of saffron threads (can start small and add more to taste or color tincture) to a bottle of gin. Use a tea strainer to free the gin of coarse botanical matter. I'm sure Scott would give better measures if you ask -- he's not all that secretive.

        2. Might be able to get Old Raj gin at the liquor store in Porter square

          1. Thanks for your replies. The Old Raj looks great, but for a mixed drink I'm thinking of going slightly lower end. I've decided to infuse my own gin - the saffron threads arrived today.
