Frozen Sour Cherries in Winnipeg?

I'm looking for frozen sour cherries in Winnipeg. All that I can find are jarred sour cherries, which I've never used to make cherry pie before. The jarred ones are tired looking, so I'm trying to find frozen ones. Anyone know where I can find them?

Thanks a million!

  1. I am a big fan of sour cherries too - they're not easy to find in Alberta either. In the few years I've been looking for local produce, I've learned to go looking for provincial ag information or local growers associations.

A look at Winnipeg turned up Pick and Pay at Lockport Berries - who advertise having "1 acre of Raspberries 1 acre of Saskatoons 1 acre of Evans Sour Cherries Frozen berries U-pick" and like any u-pick, call ahead (scroll down, listings are alphabetical)

Good luck and happy pie making :)

Awesome, thank you for the info!!

    2. I thought i saw some at either the Costco on McGillivray or the Superstore on Bison Drive. It was awhile ago, though, so they may not have them anymore.

I've been to Costco and know they have Dark Sweet Cherries (great for smoothies), but not sour cherries. I think Superstore also carries the frozen Dark Sweet Cherries, but if you think you saw frozen sour cherries, I'll go have a peek. Thanks!

I could be wrong, but I know I've seen them relatively recently. I'll take a look around at my usual haunts again. My occasional baking teacher gets frozen sour cherries somewhere. I'm pretty sure he said superstore, but I'm not sure if it's a specific one (not all superstores or costcos are created equal).

      2. cramptons has bags of them. around 12-14$ for a few lbs. they also have lots of other delicious berries frozen as well, until the new season's shipment starts in july etc

Cramptons is always my #1 pick. I think I may have also seen them at Vic's Fruit Market on Pembina sometimes.
