I've loved Gjelina. Been going there since shortly after they opened. Mom and her companion were flying in from the midwest, meeting my brother's family for my niece's graduation weekend. The big family dinner was at Sea Salt but bro and nephew not flying in until after 8 -- I knew I and my mom and Harold (on central time) could wait that long.

So I made a reservation for 3 at Gjelina at 6. But their plane was delayed on take-off. So I called Gjelina and told them we may need to back things up by a half-hour. They said no, we need to turn the table. I told them we would guarantee to give up the table by 8 as we were meeting family nearby, so they relented.

Seated on the rear corner of the patio about 6:30. Ordered the pizza with lamb sausage, tomato, broccoli rabe, and a sharp cheese. Wonderful. I love the way they serve a small plate with grated cheese, red paper flakes, and oregano. 6 slices for three people, perfect. I ate my crusts, they saved most of theirs.

Rainbow cauliflower, garlic, char. Good.

Salad of spinach leaves and feta and really small cherry tomatoes very good.

Pork belly, two hunks this time, nicely cooked, crispy on outside, tender within. Greens nice. Not enough polenta this time. Not enough balsamic sauce.

I had to have the butterscotch pot de creme. They took bites apiece, I polished off most of it. Between the rich butterscotch and the salt and the creme fraiche and again the rich butterscotch, this is an outstanding dessert. I like it better than the butterscotch budino at Mozza.

Too much food for a pre-dinner, but it was delicious. I found an easy parking space in that stretch behind (east) of the restaurant.
