Sweetened Condensed Milk

I have a recipe that asks for sweetened condensed milk. It does not require any baking or cooking. I'd like to know if this dessert can be kept at room temperature and if so, how long?

If not, can a preservative be added to maintain freshness/ prevent spoilage? The other ingredients in this recipe are wheat and nuts.

  1. What are you making? That might help us help you.

    Some sort of dessert bars?

    1. I'm with ipse - we gotta see the recipe before we can issue any opinions!

      1. Given the ingredients I'd say you're safe for quite some time. The milk is sterilized, so I think there's more chance of the nuts going rancid that of the milk spoiling! I wouldn't want to leave it out in the sun, but if the room is a reasonably cool one and the dish is covered it should be good for a day or better.

        1. This recipe has 3 ingredients? And one of them is "wheat"? Is it ground into flour?
