Costco Liquor Store- what to buy?

I'mm going to make the 40 minute run to Costco in Milford, CT which is the nearest Costco with a liquor store. I planning on buying a case of the ultra smooth Kirland French Vodka & some Kirkland Sonoma Chardonnay a good summer wine. Any other wine or spirits I should consider? Thanks!

  1. I like their Anejo and blanco Tequilas, as well as the Bourbon. Skip the spiced rum, it's pretty awful IMO.

Kirkland brand tequillas?I must have six half gallons of Cuervo Gold in my basement. At one time that was the premium brand for margaritas. Now none of my young relations want to drink it.

I bet yankee knows more about tequila than your young relations combined

Your young relations are wise. Cuervo Gold was never a premium brand. Hell, it's barely tequila (51%).

      2. I tried a bottle of the Kirkland Malbec last week and will be buying a case during my next visit. Will go perfectly with all of this summer's grilled meats.

        1. My costco often has good deals on scotch. I've bought Lagavulin 16, Talisker Storm and Oban 14 there for very good prices. High West makes barrel aged and bottled Manhattans and Boulevardiers which are really nice and great for taking on weekend trips. My Costco occasionally has those for cheaper than I can find them anywhere else.

I generally stay away from buying wine at Costco because they don't store it properly. I suppose its fine if you are buying everyday wines for near term consumption but I wouldn't buy anything special there.

Your Costco sells High West?? Holy s**t. Where are you located??

I'm in Los Angeles. I'm not sure those are always in stock but I have found them there. I think they've had some of their Rye there too. Maybe the Double Rye? Unfortunately, I've never seen the Rendevous Rye which is by far my favorite of High West's product line.

          2. How are their prices? The Costco nearest me doesn't sell alcohol, but a couple of the other ones do. I might travel if it is worth it.

In CT we have minimum price laws to protect the little guy.Costco gets around this by selling their own brand that nobody else sells. I went to Costco Tuesday and bought almost $500.00 of only Kirkland (their brand) booze. A very nice Sonoma Chardonnay @ $7.00 a bottle, a 2012 Kirkland Signature Friuli Grave Pinot Grigio also @ $7.00, Kirkland Anejo & Blanco 100% Agave tequila @ under $20.00 per liter, Some Malbec & a case of kirkland French Vodka, which is as smooth as water, for $20.00 per 1.75 lliter. I imagine comparable quality wine & spirits would be at least 25% more expensive elsewhere.

Actually, the Blanco is around $20 for a 1.75 ltr, and at that price is an amazing deal and a very good mixer, with a fairly aggressive agave profile. It isn't even a bad sipper, though pretty basic.

            2. The Costco near me, located in Yonkers NY, is terrible. The prices don't seem that good, and the selection is abysmal. I've only stopped by twice and didn't find anything worth buying.

That's unfortunate. My closest Costco [in West Des Moines, IA] often sells liquor like Bulleit Bourbon, Cointreau, etc. for $10-plus less than I can get at any other retailer in my state.
