Montreal overnight with little kids

I'm heading to Montreal next weekend with my husband, three year old, 2 friends and their 18 month old. I've checked a lot of the boards involving kids but still have some questions. We are staying out by the airport because it had a big pool for the kids and also plan on going to the biodome. So I'd be looking for a place for lunch or dinner out by the biodome that is kid friendly - food appealing to both adults and kids as well as a lunch or breakfast place not too far from the airport. Seeing as the kids are little we could do take out and bring it to a park somewhere in between. Does anyone know of any places near these locations?

  1. Do you have a car? What kind of food do you like? Are you willing to stop halfway(downtown) on your way to the biodome to pick something up?

Yes, we will have a car and are willing to go anywhere. My husband are adventurous eaters, however, the kids will eat more than peanut butter and jelly but I'm not sure smoked meat is up their alley.

I was going to say that you could easily order a smoked meat at Schwartz or the Main on the way tothe biodome...a bit further up the street from those joints is an amazing Portuguese chicken restaurant called Romados which is great for take out to eat in nearby Jeanne Mance Parc.

They are located between the airport and the Biodome but not near either. But the kids might have fun in the park and the food is better than Lafleur.

Other than those cheap eats if you search this forum for kid friendly you will see that most restaurants are fine.

Near the airport is a pretty bad area food-wise.

    2. I keep hearing raves about this place, which is fairly close to the Biodome. I've never been for lunch but have tried, and loved, their breads.
Should be good for picnic supplies. Last time we were at the Biodome we just ended up at Lafleur for junky Quebec comfort food (steamies & poutine
)Tons of options in between airport and biodome (pretty much the whole city!) But depending what type of transit you are using, i suppose it may be easier to eat near one place or the other. Also, with little kids, perhaps the fewer stops, the better.

Arhoma is excellent. And it isn't far from the biodome. There is also a quality breakfast place on Ontario not far from Papineau (on the south side of the street). They have great egg dishes.

If you're thinking of Dame Tartine, it has closed and been replaced by another place whose name I don't remember.

          1. re: hungryann

Yes it was. Sorry to hear that. It had great breakfasts.

            1. re: hungryann

There's a Dame Tartine at the corner of Ontario and Champlain across from where the old one used to be.

        2. Kid friendly places near the Biodome:
          Oreo factory (complete with store)
          Tiki Garden
          Dallas BBQ
          Vieux Duluth
          Vinnie Gambini

A the only Kid friendly places for breakfast near the airport that I can think of is Jumbo's.

          None are particularly good.

          1. > breakfast place not too far from the airport

Dejeuner Cosmopolitain is great and kid-friendly, it's in Pointe-Claire, which is one suburb over from Dorval, where the airport is. Has lunch and breakfast. Not sure that's close enough for you.

            1. Thanks so much for all the suggestions. These will definitely work for us

My daughter-in-law takes her baby (11 months old) to B&M on either 5800 Sherbrooke W. 514-484-4959 or 6200 Somerled Ave. 514-488-1555. She's sleeping now, so i won't call her to find out which one welcomes youngsters and all the mom's and dad's with toddlers eat there. Enjoy.

                1. re: naturelle

The Sherbrooke W B&M is more of a takeout place with tables. The Somerled one would be best with babies.

That being said, either is a rather significant detour from the airport/Biodome, even though both are technically "in the direction" in which the OP would be going.

There is a B & M on St. Viateur in Mile End.

That strikes me as even more out of the way, unless I'm missing an interesting route from the airport.
