Friday Night @ Ningbo (chiming Grayelf)

  • 3

Tomorrow night we will do a late observation of Mother's Day as well as a family birthday, so a 2-fer. Dinner reservation made for Ningbo, for party of five. I've never been, so I'm looking to y'all (and to Grayelf) for recommendations. TIA :-)

  1. Hey LR, my fave items at Ningbo have been the appetizers/dim summy things. There is a shrimp skin one with cilantro that is tip top. The xlb are also worthy, as are the radish/daikon pastries. The salt and pepper beans are also crunchy snacky goodness. Also try the Chinese spinach with pine nuts and the Shanghai pan-fried juicy crab buns (similar to the xlb but crabbier). Deep fried whole wee fishies also tasty, as is the jellyfish app.

We haven't been as thrilled with the "mains" in our visits there during chowdowns. And to be fair, we haven't sampled that much of their seafood.

Good starters, we'll keep them in mind :-D

LR. Jr. alone takes one steamer of XLB and if I don't watch him he could sneak half a green onion pancake/beef roll into his cavernous stomach.

As Shanghai dim sums can get very carb-heavy quickly I'm gonna focus on the mains and not sidetrack with the dim sum items.

Will you report back LR? The other local food sites seem to be very divided on this place.
