Nice restaurant in Lakewood
What are the options these days in Lakewood for a nice restaurant (sit down waiter service, wine menu, perhaps on par with or slightly below with Abigael's, Mike's etc.). I know about 656/Stingers in Long Branch, but want recommendations for Lakewood only. Is Estreia the only option for meat? Someone recommended Ottimo which is dairy.
I heard that Etc Squared opened in place of The Reserve Sushi and Steakhouse, but I couldn't find a number and their website just says "stay tuned" for the full website and opening. I called Etc. Steakhouse in Teaneck and they said they are no longer affiliated with Etc. Squared in Lakewood. Anyone know if they ever opened?
What other places are there? Thanks!
I suppose I will just respond to my own post since I got none and have already eaten in Lakewood, NJ. We went to Estreia Monday night. It was quite empty, but it's a Monday night. Decor is very nice, and presentation of the food was very nice as well. Wait staff was attentive (only 2 other parties of 2 there for most of the time we were there) and refilled water glasses regularly and cleared courses appropriately. A bread basket with a fresh olive tapanade was placed on our table, and replaced readily when we finished the first. We shared the beet salad, heirloom tomato salad and the oriental beef spring roll. Both salads were fresh, refreshing and delicious. A great balance of flavors. The spring roll was very tasty as well.
For mains, I had the boneless rib eye. Their house steaks all come with either hand cut fries or homemade beer battered onion rings. Both were very delicious: fresh, hot and crispy. You get the option of having your steak grilled, pan seared, or pepper crusted. I thought that was a nice touch of personalization that I've never seen at Mike's, Prime Grill, Abigael's etc. Steaks come with a choice of Bearnaise, shallot, or one other sauce I'm blanking on. My steak was cooked a perfect medium-rare like requested and was extremely flavorful. My husband and father-in-law got the chimichurri skirt steak. I got a taste of it, and it was delicious and perfectly cooked to their requests too. My mother-in-law got the grilled salmon, which she said was delicious. We had no room for dessert, so I can't speak to those.
Wine selection was just okay; a few Barkans and Herzog, and Ramon Cardova from Spain. A few beers as well. The restaurant service and quality of food is right up there with Mike's, Prime restaurants, Abigael's etc. I hope they do well! If you're heading down the Garden State Parkway and are looking for a nice dinner, this is the place! It's only about 2-3 miles off the Parkway. I highly recommend it!
