DC Downtown/Penn Quarter with Kids Trip Review

  • 1

Thought I add my review to those looking for suggestions with kids. I have 6 year old twins fyi

Stayed at Marriott Metro Center downtown.

Breakfast

Founding Farmers - good breakfast, no kids menus but kids love the red velvet pancakes. Kinda pricey but very good food
Hamilton - Great location, huge restaurant. Good brunch items. Again, no kids menu for breakfast but they have french toast, pancakes, etc. My son actually got the hot dog from the lunch kids menu for lunch.

Other 2 breakfast in Marriott restaurant. Standard breakfast buffet. 17.95 adults, 6.95 kids.

Lunch - we skipped all lunches and had heavy breakfast and early dinner which seemed to work out well

Dinner -

Chef Geoff - kids menu, great food, appropriate for kids

Hill Country BBQ - good for kids, family style. BBQ ok, I have had better but was reasonable for all the food you received

Capital City Brewery - good beer, cheap burgers. 5-7 daily is $5 appetizers in entire place. We shared wings, nachos and 2 burgers. Cheapest meal on entire trip. And free pretzels as their "bread basket" which kids loved!

*Only place I found where happy hour prices apply to whole restaurant so everyone can get cheap meals*

Gordon Biersch Brewery - nice location and space. Good kids menu and burgers. Stick to burgers which were good. Got the steak frites - pretty bland

Hope this quick trip report helps others. Enjoy!

  1. Hiil Country has great moist (ie - fatty) brisket, but I don't care for the rest of the bbq. Do you remmebr what meats you had?
