Big Island Report
Just returned from the Big Island...stayed at the Hapuna Prince on the Kona side of the island. It was our fourth trip so we tried some new restaurants and went back to a few of our favorites. Waimea is a 20 minute drive from the Hapuna. In past years we have gone to Merrimans...great wine list and good food...but you need a reservation and we were not into planning ahead this year. So instead we went to The Fish and the Hog for a wonderful dinner...nice wine by the glass list...very good service...nice assortment of BBQ and good fish as well. This is a highly recommended stop. Another good meal was had at the Lemon Grass Bistro Express in the Kings and Queens shopping center about 10 minutes south of the hotel. Very nice rice and noodle dishes. Fresh rolls were good as well. Finally we had another nice meal at Cafe Pesto's a few miles north of the hotel. They have a decent pizza, nice salads, and good Italian if you are in the mood. Meals at the Hapuna Prince and sister resort the Mauna Kea were forgetable except for the breakfast buffets which are excellent. We visited Manago Hotel south of the airport for a traditional Hawaiian menu served family style. I think we were the only tourists there. It was decent...and the botanical gardens are across the street so a nice stop. Thanks for all of the suggestions we found on this board!
