2014 Lobster Rolls

I was pleasantly surprised yesterday. I was at the Roche Bros in West Roxbury and they had individually packaged lobster rolls in front of the seafood counter. They looked pretty good so bought one for lunch. A good amount of fresh lobster meat with a little mayo in a top sliced hot dog roll with lettuce. I'm not a big fan of lettuce in lobster rolls, but there was so much meat, it didn't detract from it. An excellent buy at only $6.77!

  1. I always assume that cold cooked lobsters in the case or store made lobster rolls are made with the dead/dying lobsters from the tank.. perhaps its just my wild imagination!

      I hope it's your imagination, That just put a bit of an damper on something I could have seen myself getting fairly often.

        I'm of the camp that thinks it is your wild imagination. Grocers like Roche Bros are not going to cook dead lobsters. They may pick out the lazy lobsters who have been in the tank, but that doesn't mean they are dying.

        The key for me in purchasing the sweetest lobster is to have them pulled from the tank flapping and protesting like there's no tomorrow. And there won't be.

      2. I got a huge Lobster roll/sandwich at the Barrelman in Marblehead recently. 8oz of lobster meat lightly dressed with mayo on a brioche burger bun $22. Washed down with a Jacks Abby and a Bruins win.
