Park & Orchard, East Rutherford

I haven't been for decades, but will be going there for a birthday gathering. Has anyone dined there recently and have some ordering advice?

  1. Based on my last visit (4+ years ago) I'm sorry to say my advice is to go elsewhere. Dated is an understatement!!
    Just go w no expectations.

Yikes...........I haven't been in 10+ years but the place has been there for at least 25 if I had to guess, so they must still be doing something right?

I'm hoping so. What I remember is you picked white rice, brown rice or pasta, a protein, and then a cuisine (italian, japanese, thai, chinese...).

I'll give you my standard response to that...Olive Garden and TGIFridays have been open a long time and they're always busy. In my book that just doesn't always = good!

While I don't disagree with your statement we are talking two completely different price points.

      2. I used to go often (back when the Devils played at the Meadowlands) -- but I was there recently. Same same. But IMO, that's a good thing. I never viewed P&O as the kind of place that would be re-inventing itself, changing organically, taking on and trying new things. Some places do that, specialize in it, etc. -- others don't.

The menu is not as broad as it used to be, but maybe that's me. I don't remember. I hadn't been there in many years so perhaps it got "bigger" over time, at least in my mind.

But they still offer quality food, prepared right, done well, and it's good. They still have their fans. And they still do what they do well -- and they've been doing it a long time. Still strong in the wine area also.

It may not light you up and you may not like the offerings -- but I don't think you'll get a bad meal at all. It should be a good one...perhaps just not well liked for your tastes, likes, etc.

It's "OK" -- it just doesn't light me up now. Nothing truly exciting. Nothing that I am really looking forward to. If I am going, I know it's good, reliable, etc.

        1. I was there about 2 years ago, after having not been for at least 10. I thought the food was still quite good and interesting (in a good way).

          1. I have gone for lunch and ordered the rice and veggie dish with the indian sauce (you choose the sauce). It does not taste like indian food per se, but it is tasty and the rice is very good.
