Best dishes at Taiwan Cafe?

  • 6

Please excuse me if this is a redundant thread, but I searched the board and didn't find many specific recs:

I am having lunch tomorrow at Taiwan Cafe and other than XLB (which we will definitely get), what can't be missed?

We are two (adventurous) eaters, so we won't be able to order a TON of different things and are looking for the best of the best.

Thanks, all!

  1. Stuff I've loved over the years: Taiwan Style Pan Fried Dumplings, Szechuan Wontons, Fried Taiwanese Style Pork Chop, Beef Stew Noodle Soup

    1. Here are some of my favorites:

      -Chilled Spiced Pork Ears
-Chilled Spiced Beef Tendon (slightly similar to the pork ears)
-Fried Minced Pork Roll In Tofu Skin
-Five Spiced Cold Cut Beef Shank
-Szechuan Style White Fish with veggie in spicy broth (not sure if this is the right one, but I think that it is)
      -Beef with Long Horn Peppers

Last time I ordered the pigs ears the waitress said "really? You sure?" Then proceeded to fish them out of a white tub in the soda cooler. They were as disturbing as our waitress's puzzled and concerned face.

      2. Along with what's mentioned, the eggplant with basil is a winner.

        1. They have the best scallion pancake with roast beef, and I love the steamed pork and taro.
