Bubble Tea

  • 7

Now that there is nicer weather I see a lot of people walking around the streets of NYC sipping bubble teas - you know, the ones with the big tapioca pearls in them.
Is there anywhere in the NYC area that I can get a kosher bubble tea? I'd like to try it. Googling recipes seems like there should be no problem with the actual ingredients unless somehow those tapioca balls had something in them.

Thanks!

  1. The bubble tea craze seems to have petered out over the last several years. I recall seeing certified boba (tapioca pearls) 5 or 6 years ago. Can't recall where.

    1. A few years ago I bought a bag of large pearl tapioca at Mizrach u'Ma'arav at 47 Agrippas in Yerushalayim. They were not black, and I have never used them, but they look like they should be usable for this purpose. I know this won't help the OP looking for a place here in NYC, but perhaps it might help someone else who chances upon this thread.

Black color is not essential (although it makes for a nice contrast) I've seen them in a variety of colors.

      2. Ive seen it in Great Neck at the salad place

Which salad place? 27 Dressings? (@Israelbound)

27 Dressings under VHQ has bubble tea!

        2. A kosher juice bar on Kingston Avenue in CH used to make bubble tea. I don't know if that place is still around, though.

This is one item that I'm pretty surprised there's a gap on. Maybe someone would like to fill in the gap and offer it in their estabishment?
