ISO best Vietnamese Bun in central Toronto

I'm not sure if this has been asked before, but I was in LA at a place called Blossom and not being very familiar with Vietnamese food and not interested in Pho, I tried Bun and absolutely loved it.

I am not worried about price, I care about freshness and quality ingredients.

Just by looking at these yelp photos, I think you will understand what I mean: http://www.yelp.ca/biz_photos/blossom...

Where is the best based on these parameters?

  1. so those pictures look amazing. i've been slowly trying as many vietnamese places as possible. the best bun i've tried was at pho linh on college - but, it probably doesn't even come close to what you are looking for. chowies, please give us great bun!

    1. I usually order the pho, but my companions usually get bun at Pho Con Bo (Jane/Wilson) or Pho Mi Asia (Keele/Wilson). The bun at both places certainly looks like the photo, usually with only one crispy spring roll, though.

      1. I love the Bun at Pho Linh on College.

        1. Years ago Anh Dao on Spadina was my first and always remained my best bowl. They use a lot of fresh herbs (some places totally skimp!) and their grilled meats are very good. It's very much a hole in the wall and I haven't been in far too long.

great - i've always been curious about that place but it just seems so dusty on the outside and is often closed. i'll check it out soon.

Let me know if they are still any good! There are definitely some esthetic/cleanliness issues to overlook.

anh dao would be my rec as well, but they have been in decline of recent. most notably is the reduction in fresh mint. even with that said, still is probably my go to in the city for bun.

i also order it at pho houng on dundas at brock. and may be worth a comparison.

one thing you can do at viet restos is request modifications for a charge. i often add other items to my bowl. you may want to request extra chopped mint and cucumber. also i prefer fresh chilis so i ask for that and cut myself.

              - khao san road

I tried to request herbs for a lacking bun once and got denied and then ignored for the rest of my meal... I think that place (at Broadview and Gerrard) is closed now.

Most Vietnamese restos I've visited (mostly in London, but at least once at one place on Gerrard) are fairly flexible with special requests for more herbs, extra vegetables that wouldn't traditionally be included, for a small charge. Maybe I've been lucky, but I've never had service issues after making a special request.

            3. I just had bun from golden turtle. i often eat it because i live nearby. it's mediocre but it does the trick.however, the fried spring roll is dreadful.
