I'm trying to organize a dinner for 8 foodies. Price isn't an issue.
Just looking for a fun restaurant (where you can hear one another) and great food.
I'm debating between Sel Gras and Anabel bar et vin.
I was underwhelmed by Anabel and have heard little about Sel Gras. The space at the former is lovely, of course, and I liked the cheese cart even if it was a bit gimmicky, but the service wasn't particularly attentive/accurate and several dishes were a bit boring. Everything was well prepared, just not the most interesting. Good oysters though!
I would do the tasting menu Au Cinqieme Peche, or alternatively, ask to sit at the chef's table (in the kitchen) at Pastaga.
Both have great food and wine, a relaxed atmosphere, not too loud, but are on the pricier side of things.
If you've been to both, then I had a great experience at Le Serpent. Although I prefer hanging out in the Mile End, the food and decor here was great and perfect for a birthday meal.
