Dinner on the way from Amarillo to Shreveport

Friends and I are driving from Albuquerque to Shreveport on a Monday in May. Lunch will probably be in Amarillo, but we could use suggestions for dinner somewhere along the way from Amarillo to Shreveport.

We can take either the northern route, bypassing DFW entirely, or the more southern route that passes by/through DFW. (We'd prefer to avoid the most congested areas, to save driving time.)

Casual atmosphere is preferred, as we are mostly just driving that day. Style of food doesn't matter, as long as the quality is high. But it does have to be open Mondays.

Many thanks!

  1. Your best bet is to head for Trinity Groves in Dallas. Only a slight detour from the northern route, plus it will take you over the new Margaret Hunt Hill bridge which is worth a detour on its own.

There is a killer restaurant row concept in the area just on the other side of the bridge, spearheaded by Phil Romano of Macaroni Grill fame. One of the spots is a "laboratory", housing popup restaurants for limited runs.

I was visiting last week and had a light dinner with my mom at Casa Rubia, which is a Spanish tapas place. It was stunningly good. Can't wait to go back and hit some of the other spots on my next trip home.
