Best Sausage in Town?

  • a

Good afternoon fellow Chowers, what is your favosrite source for sausages?

I am personally partial to La Queue de Cochon for Toulouse style (many delicious flavors available, l'Olivier for Merguez.

I have not found a suitable German style source yet. I really don't like Walter & Co. PorcMeilleur at Jean-Talon has great meat (I think they have the best pork in town period.), but the spices and texture are not yet perfect.

  1. The best German sausages I've found in Montreal are at Boucherie L'Atlantique on the corner of Queen Mary and Côte-des-Neiges. The owners are German and sell lots of old-country specialties. Their deli bar with its world-class potato salad is worth a visit, too. That said, the sausages are good, not insanely great. You can get better (but still not great) in New York City.

Actually, German friends of mine contend that great German sausages are not to be found in North America. Their theory is that sausage makers here are prevented from using certain ingredients necessary for that authentic taste. I've not pressed them for details; this seems like one case where ignorance is bliss.
