  1. I'll start things off --

    LAMB

      1. CULVER CITY CALIFORNIA USA

          1. This is a tough one. I like both of the first two options...

            1. CULVER CITY CALIFORNIA USA

                    1. Nice tight race and good topics!

Should we clarify spring produce or let it be? Would asparagus fall under spring produce anyways?

We haven't clarified huge subjects in the past like Sandwiches why should we start now.

                        1. re: Mattapoisett in LA

Since asparagus was nominated as a separate entry, if spring produce wins then anyone who includes asparagus and posts about it will be banned forever from CH.

                          lol ;-)

                        2. re: Porthos

I don't believe spring produce needs clarification. The produce at the Wed Santa Monica Farmer's Market has been so superb. I am loving the sweet spring onions, spinach, purple and yellow cauliflower, English peas, asparagus( fat and skinny or green or purple), Harry's Gaviota Strawberries (just to name a few).

                          1. Interesting nominating cities. I'll nominate Glendora or something next month.

                            LAMB!

The original concept was Neighborhood of the month. The LA Board for the most part changed it to dish of the month though one month was Koreatown

                                      1. re: 90024

all waters? or separate categories with flat or sparkling? Foreign or domestic?

                                        1. re: 90024

All and any...for example some say Pellegrino tastes like soap

                                          1. re: 90024

Water is not on the list above in the OP to vote for this month. Try the nominating thread next month if you're truly serious.

                                            1. SPRING PRODUCE

What could be less boring? We live in LA --yay fresh Spring produce!

                                                        1. Ok. Since I need to lose my weight:

                                                          Spring produce.

Caps if you want your vote to count.

Like LAMB (was going to vote for CC if lamb was a shoo-in, but SP seems to be winning so lamb it is).

                                                            1. My bad.

                                                              SPRING PRODUCE

                                                              1. OK, here is my proposed solution:

After a lot of votes, LAMB and SPRING PRODUCE are tied.

I think we will do Spring Produce in May, since time is more of the essence. And then we will do Lamb in June.

This will save me and everyone from a nomination process and voting at the end of this month.

But I enjoy the nominating process...... ;)

                                                                      1. re: nosh

I plan to eat in every restaurant in CULVER CITY and then tell myself how I liked each meal.

                                                                      2. CULVER CITY

(but can we have all the others in other months, please?)

                                                                        1. Since your rules in the OP clearly state voting is open until 4/30 at midnight, why close it out early??

Granted, my nom won & I've got nothing to complain about, but it seems presumptuous at best & unfair at worst to not count the other votes still coming in. You had no way of knowing whether a bunch of hounds would rally today and overtake either lamb or spring produce. What gives?

First, a mea culpa -- I thought yesterday was the last day of the month. I was clearly mistaken -- too distraught after second Cardinals extra-inning loss in a row where they blew early leads.

I was going to sleep and wanted to get the DOTM thread up. I waited a bit and there were two seconding replies and no new votes. And no new votes before midnight. At that point nobody pointed out my egregious error.

I stepped up a couple months ago and took over responsibility for this from ipse because I could do it and continue a popular series which I and a lot of other L.A. 'hounds enjoy.

If anyone else wants to take over towards the end of June for July I'd be more than happy to hand it over.

                                                                              1. re: nosh

You are doing a great job. Please stay.

                                                                                1. re: maudies5

thanks again for stepping up to the plate.

ok, sometimes i'm a back seat driver. :)

                                                                                2. re: nosh

I was really just wondering what the deal was. Thanks for the honest explanation. Accidental mistakes are always forgivable in my book ;)

But I would have been complaining much louder if I were one of the supporters of any other contender, that's just how I roll ;)
