We will be seeing a show at The Metropolis(59 St. Catherine East). Unfortunately, the show begins at 8PM and the seating is general admission, so the closer we eat to the venue the better.

Any suggestions of someplace within a few blocks of there? Would probably be most interested in something ethnic(Thai, Vietnamese, Indian) or a nice bistro. However, would be open to anything anybody might suggest.

For straightforward bistro, in that neighbourhood you can't do much better than the Café du Nouveau Monde on the second floor of the Théâtre du Nouveau Monde on the corner of Ste-Catherine and St-Urbain (514 866-8669).

For ethnic food, you'll be within a stone's throw of Chinatown. The Beijing on La Gauchetière is usually where I end up.

On St-Laurent, a block west of the Metropolis, you will find Bon Blé Riz a nice chinese place just north of St-Catherine and on the South Side, Nonya wihc is indonesian.

I recommend both for a relatively quick and inexpensive meal. You will definitely get more than your money's worth.

To late for this request, but for future reference: Nonya has moved to 966 Ste. Catherine West (across the street from Simon's) and also no longer fits the "Cheap Thrills" price range that inspired us to try it out.
